Professionals in a senior financial reporting position must have strong knowledge of GAAP, SEC reporting, internal controls and Sarbanes-Oxley requirements. Candidates should also possess knowledge of several areas of finance and accounting, including tax, cost and general ledger accounting. A bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting is required, and many companies prefer those with a CPA and experience in public accounting.
