Director of Financial Reporting Job Description

The director of financial reporting must have advanced knowledge and understanding of GAAP, SEC reporting requirements and financial statement analysis. Companies expect candidates for this job to have a CPA, a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or business, and at least eight years of experience. Top candidates have experience in public accounting and SEC reporting. Strong analytical, critical thinking, and verbal, writing and interpersonal skills are crucial to the position, as is the ability to interact with all levels of corporate and divisional management.

Typical director of financial reporting duties:

Preparing, analyzing and reviewing quarterly and annual financial statements, footnotes, and management discussion and analysisPerforming technical accounting research as required, including on accounting pronouncements, and meeting with divisional controllers on accounting and financial reporting issuesPreparing all GAAP and SEC financial reporting, including supporting documentsEnsuring compliance related to financial reporting and disclosure requirementsSupervising, training and mentoring staff with duties related to corporate accounting and reportingCommunicating regularly with management and business units
