We are looking for an experienced Senior Accountant to join our team in West Des Moines, Iowa. In this long-term contract role, you will play a pivotal role in managing the accounting, reporting, and analysis of a diverse investment portfolio, including fixed income, equities, alternatives, and structured products. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in investment accounting, with a particular focus on reinsurance and regulatory compliance.<br><br>Responsibilities:<br>• Manage daily and monthly accounting activities for complex investment portfolios, ensuring compliance with U.S. GAAP and statutory accounting principles.<br>• Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and investment roll-forwards to support general ledger close processes.<br>• Assist in the preparation of quarterly and annual statutory filings, including Schedule D and other investment-related disclosures.<br>• Conduct portfolio performance analysis and provide detailed variance insights to finance leadership.<br>• Collaborate with portfolio managers, custodians, and external service providers to validate pricing, income accruals, and investment classifications.<br>• Monitor and ensure adherence to internal investment policies and regulatory standards, including those set by the Bermuda Monetary Authority.<br>• Coordinate with internal and external auditors by preparing audit schedules and addressing inquiries.<br>• Contribute to strategic initiatives such as investment system implementations and process automation projects.

• Proven experience in investment accounting, particularly within the reinsurance or financial services industries.<br>• Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, statutory accounting principles, and regulatory compliance related to investments.<br>• Proficiency in preparing journal entries, account reconciliations, and general ledger processes.<br>• Experience with month-end close activities and financial reporting.<br>• Advanced analytical skills, with the ability to assess portfolio performance and provide actionable insights.<br>• Excellent collaboration skills to work effectively with internal teams and external service providers.<br>• Familiarity with statutory filings, including Schedule D and investment-related financial disclosures.<br>• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA designation is preferred.
