We are looking for a Staff Backend Engineer to join our team in San Francisco, California. In this role, you will play a key part in developing advanced backend systems that drive pharmacy software innovation, ensuring efficiency and scalability for healthcare operations. You will collaborate across teams to design, implement, and maintain distributed systems that support real-time interactions and complex workflows in the telehealth and pharmacy sectors. Responsibilities: • Lead the design, development, and optimization of backend services, APIs, and data pipelines to support large-scale pharmacy operations. • Architect distributed systems that handle high webhook traffic, third-party integrations, and real-time scheduling for providers and patients. • Establish and enforce best practices for system performance, security, and scalability to ensure reliable healthcare workflows. • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Product, Frontend, and Pharmacy Operations, to create seamless solutions for healthcare challenges. • Mentor team members, set technical standards, and make key architectural decisions to guide the backend engineering strategy. • Ensure system reliability and resilience, focusing on patient safety and operational efficiency in distributed environments. • Drive innovation within the engineering team, fostering a culture of technical ownership and collaboration. • Optimize infrastructure for scalability and maintainability as the platform grows to meet increasing healthcare demands.

• At least 7 years of experience in backend development, with expertise in Node.js (TypeScript/JavaScript) and modern frameworks. • Proven ability to architect and deploy distributed systems at scale in production environments. • Strong knowledge of cloud platforms, container orchestration tools like Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines. • Experience building and maintaining large codebases with a focus on performance and maintainability. • Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across technical and non-technical teams. • Adaptability and resourcefulness to thrive in a fast-paced startup environment. • Familiarity with healthcare software, pharmacy systems, or regulated environments is a plus. • Knowledge of real-time messaging, inventory systems, or enterprise SaaS platforms is desirable.
