Staff Accountant
We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our team in Newberry, South Carolina. This long-term contract position offers an opportunity to support critical accounting functions, ensuring accurate financial records and compliance with audit requirements. The role involves collaboration across departments to maintain financial integrity and improve processes, contributing to the overall success of the organization.<br><br>Responsibilities:<br>• Perform monthly reconciliations of the general ledger and ensure accurate balancing of asset accounts.<br>• Prepare, review, and post journal entries to maintain accurate financial records.<br>• Identify and resolve discrepancies in student accounts and payables, ensuring smooth operations.<br>• Assist in audit preparation by compiling necessary documentation and addressing findings.<br>• Work closely with budget managers and finance team members to ensure compliance with audit standards.<br>• Support onboarding efforts for new finance staff members, facilitating a seamless transition.<br>• Collaborate with student accounts team, providing backup support as needed on Blackbaud and GenZibar systems.<br>• Maintain accurate and reliable financial data across all accounting activities.<br>• Supervise and guide student workers in completing administrative tasks efficiently.<br>• Document procedures and organize supporting files to ensure clear and accessible records.
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance is preferred.<br>• Minimum of 2 years of accounting experience, with a background in higher education or nonprofit sectors being advantageous.<br>• Strong skills in monthly reconciliations, journal entries, and troubleshooting financial discrepancies.<br>• Familiarity with Blackbaud and GenZibar systems is highly desirable.<br>• Ability to work independently while managing priorities and meeting tight deadlines.<br>• Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining data accuracy.<br>• Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams.<br>• Flexibility to work in a hybrid, remote, or on-site environment as needed.
