We are looking for a skilled Senior Accountant to join our team on a contract basis in Lewiston, Maine. This position is ideal for someone with a strong attention to detail and a solid background in accounting practices and financial management. You will play a key role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records while contributing to the success of a non-profit organization. Responsibilities: • Perform and oversee month-end closing activities to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting. • Manage and maintain the general ledger, ensuring all entries are properly documented and reconciled. • Prepare and post journal entries for various transactions, ensuring compliance with accounting standards. • Conduct account reconciliations to verify the accuracy of financial data and resolve discrepancies. • Handle bank reconciliations, ensuring all transactions are accounted for and properly recorded. • Support the preparation of financial statements and reports, providing insights into organizational performance. • Collaborate with team members to ensure compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements. • Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement changes to enhance efficiency. • Assist in audits and provide documentation and explanations as required. • Maintain organized records and ensure adherence to best practices in financial management.

• Minimum of 3 years of experience in accounting, preferably at a senior level. • Proficiency in month-end closing processes and general ledger management. • Strong knowledge of journal entries and account reconciliation practices. • Experience with bank reconciliations and resolving discrepancies. • Familiarity with accounting principles and financial reporting standards. • Attention to detail and ability to work independently with minimal supervision. • Excellent organizational and time management skills to meet deadlines. • Strong communication skills for collaborating with team members and stakeholders.
