<p><strong>Lead Firmware Engineer</strong></p><p>Hybrid - 3 days onsite | Austin, TX | Contract-to-Hire</p><p><br></p><p>Our client is seeking a <strong>Lead Firmware Engineer</strong> to join a team focused on researching and prototyping emerging technologies. This team operates across multiple disciplines, including embedded engineering, security and cryptography, backend development, mobile platforms, and machine learning. This role requires a highly capable individual contributor who is a self‑starter, with demonstrated expertise in multiple technical domains and the ability to contribute to forward‑looking engineering initiatives.</p><p><br></p><p><strong>Responsibilities</strong></p><ul><li>Take end‑to‑end ownership of the firmware and software development, including design, analysis, implementation, testing, deployment, documentation, and long‑term maintenance.</li><li>Test and debug firmware code, primarily using programming languages such as C or C++.</li><li>Work closely with hardware engineers to define system requirements and ensure seamless integration between hardware and software components.</li><li>Maintain comprehensive documentation of firmware development processes, including specifications and testing results.</li><li>Analyze and enhance the efficiency, stability, and scalability of firmware systems, staying updated on emerging technologies and trends in firmware development.</li></ul>

<p><strong>Qualifications:</strong></p><ul><li>Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field; Master’s degree preferred</li><li>7+ years of industry experience in firmware, embedded systems, or related engineering fields</li><li>Expert proficiency in C and C++ and in at least one additional language: Python, C#, TypeScript, Java, Kotlin, Swift, Go, or CUDA</li><li>Experience with secure‑element and/or secure‑credential development, including symmetric/asymmetric cryptography, PQC concepts, and relevant ISO standards (e.g., ISO‑14443, ISO‑7816)</li><li>Familiarity with multiple industry specifications and protocols (e.g., mobile credential standards, embedded platform standards, device compliance frameworks)</li><li>Experience with low‑level machine learning at the edge, including model architecture, optimization, sensing, classification, or object detection</li></ul><p><strong>Contract Benefit Offerings:</strong></p><ul><li>Healthcare (medical, dental, and vision plans)</li><li>401(k) and retirement plans</li><li>Commuter benefits</li><li>Employee and vendor discounts</li><li>Employee Assistance Program (EAP)</li><li>And many more!</li></ul><p><br></p>
