We are looking for an experienced Senior Accountant to join our team in Albany, New York. This is a hybrid Contract-to-permanent position, offering a unique opportunity to contribute to a nonprofit, very well-known in the Capital Region. The ideal candidate will be responsible for key accounting functions and will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial operations. Responsibilities:• Perform month-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.• Manage and maintain the general ledger, including preparing and posting journal entries.• Reconcile accounts and bank statements to ensure accuracy and compliance with financial standards.• Handle large sets of financial data, utilizing advanced Excel functions such as pivot tables and vlookups.• Oversee accounting for endowment funds, ensuring proper documentation and reporting.• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address discrepancies and streamline processes.• Support audits by preparing necessary documentation and responding to inquiries.• Assist with budgeting and forecasting activities to support organizational goals.• Ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulations.• Contribute to process improvements and efficiency initiatives within the accounting department.

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting or a related field. • Proficiency in month-end close, general ledger management, and journal entries. • Strong skills in account and bank reconciliations. • Experience working with endowment funds and large data sets. • Advanced knowledge of Excel, including pivot tables and vlookups. • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills. • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a hybrid environment. • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
