We are looking for an experienced Controller to join our team on a contract basis in Washington, District of Columbia. In this role, you will oversee essential financial operations and reporting, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and organizational objectives. This position offers an opportunity to work with a small nonprofit organization, contributing to impactful financial management. Responsibilities:• Lead the month-end closing process to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.• Prepare and review monthly financial statements to assess organizational performance.• Manage and oversee cash flow operations to maintain financial stability.• Conduct detailed budget variance analysis to identify discrepancies and provide actionable insights.• Maintain the general ledger, ensuring all transactions are accurately recorded.• Ensure compliance with US GAAP standards in all accounting practices.• Handle grant accounting tasks, including tracking and reporting grant-related financial activities.• Collaborate with internal teams to support financial planning and decision-making processes.• Provide recommendations for financial process improvements to enhance operational efficiency.• Assist in audits and ensure adherence to regulatory requirements.

• Proven experience in month-end closing and financial reporting. • Strong knowledge of preparing and analyzing monthly financial statements. • Expertise in managing cash flow and conducting variance analysis. • Proficiency in maintaining and reconciling general ledger accounts. • Comprehensive understanding of US GAAP principles and their application. • Hands-on experience with grant accounting within a nonprofit environment. • Excellent analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy. • Strong communication and collaboration abilities to work effectively with diverse teams.
