A California university is seeking an experienced professional to assist with a high-volume backlog of California Public Records Act (CPRA) and Information Practices Act (IPA) requests. This position offers the opportunity to support a mission-driven institution by ensuring timely, compliant responses across a wide range of requests, including media, litigation, research, patient data, vendor, and personnel matters. You will work directly with the Director of Records and Information Management to triage, review, and close out requests. This is a 3-month, fully remote contract role. Candidates must be based in California, or have significant work experience within the state, to ensure familiarity with California-specific public records laws and agency workflows. Responsibilities<ul><li>Review, organize, and manage a backlog of approximately 300 CPRA/IPA requests.</li><li>Assess and prioritize high-risk or time-sensitive requests (e.g., litigation, HIPAA/patient data, media).</li><li>Perform legal review and redactions for privilege, confidentiality, and statutory exemptions.</li><li>Coordinate with internal departments to gather responsive records.</li><li>Track progress, maintain accurate documentation, and drive backlog reduction with minimal oversight.</li></ul>

Qualifications<ul><li>Minimum 3 years of experience handling CPRA/IPA or FOIA-style requests.</li><li>Strong knowledge of the California Public Records Act and Information Practices Act.</li><li>Prior experience in a California public agency, university, or hospital strongly preferred.</li><li>Strong redaction and legal review skills, with confidence applying statutory exemptions.</li><li>Familiarity with eDiscovery or redaction tools (Logikcull, Relativity, Exterro, Adobe Acrobat Pro, etc.); Logikcull training provided if needed.</li><li>Proven ability to manage a high-volume caseload, prioritize deadlines, and work independently.</li><li>Excellent communication skills, discretion, and attention to detail.</li></ul> The ideal candidate will bring proven California PRA/IPA experience, strong redaction and legal review skills, and the ability to work independently in a high-volume environment.
