Legal Assistant
We are looking for a dedicated and detail-driven Legal Assistant to join the Tennessee State Board of Education's legal team in Nashville, Tennessee. In this long-term contract position, you will play a key role in supporting the Board’s statutory and regulatory responsibilities, contributing to the advancement of K-12 education law and policy. As part of the legal team, you will collaborate closely with attorneys, paralegals, and interns to ensure the effective management of legal operations and communications.<br><br>Responsibilities:<br>• Provide thorough responses to legal inquiries from school districts, educators, government agencies, and other stakeholders.<br>• Assist in the preparation and execution of rulemaking activities, including drafting notices, compiling public comments, editing rules, and coordinating with legislative committees.<br>• Support the General Counsel in drafting and revising Board policies, rules, and meeting materials.<br>• Conduct comprehensive legal research on K-12 education issues to aid attorneys in decision-making processes.<br>• Monitor and manage deadlines, schedules, and compliance timelines for rulemaking and regulatory procedures.<br>• Handle administrative tasks such as scheduling meetings, processing travel reimbursements, and filing legal documents.<br>• Coordinate public requests for participation in Board meetings and ensure proper communication with stakeholders.<br>• Facilitate the completion of annual compliance forms for Board members and staff.<br>• Procure necessary materials and resources for the legal team and manage document printing and mailing.<br>• Organize and prepare materials for legal proceedings and ensure smooth operations during Board meetings.
• Strong communication skills to effectively interact with stakeholders, including educators, legislators, and advocates.<br>• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.<br>• Solid understanding of legal terminology and procedures within an educational context.<br>• Demonstrated ability to conduct detailed legal research and analyze policy-related documents.<br>• Exceptional organizational skills to manage schedules, deadlines, and compliance requirements.<br>• Experience with administrative functions such as filing, correspondence, and travel arrangements.<br>• Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting while managing independent responsibilities.<br>• Knowledge of K-12 education policies and systems is preferred but not mandatory.
