Tax Supervisor - Public Accounting
We are looking for an experienced Tax Supervisor to join our boutique public accounting firm in Chicago, Illinois. This role offers an exciting opportunity to oversee client engagements, provide tax and accounting services, and contribute to the growth of the firm. With a flexible hybrid work schedule and the chance to play a key role in shaping the future of the practice, this position is ideal for someone seeking a dynamic and entrepreneurial environment.<br><br>Responsibilities:<br>• Prepare and review a variety of tax returns, including individual (1040), corporate (1120S), and partnership (1065).<br>• Manage bookkeeping and accounting tasks for small business clients, ensuring accuracy and compliance.<br>• Supervise and collaborate with offshore team members to deliver timely and high-quality client services.<br>• Provide proactive tax planning and advisory services to clients, identifying opportunities for optimization.<br>• Develop and refine internal processes to enhance efficiency and support the firm’s growth.<br>• Build and maintain strong client relationships, serving as a trusted advisor.<br>• Collaborate directly with the firm’s owner in a startup-style environment.<br>• Monitor and manage workload during busy seasons (50–55 hours per week) and off-seasons (32–36 hours per week).
• A minimum of 4 years of experience in public accounting, ideally in a small or mid-sized firm.<br>• Proficiency in tax compliance and preparation, including individual, corporate, and partnership tax returns.<br>• Strong bookkeeping skills and attention to detail.<br>• Ability to work independently and thrive in a less structured, entrepreneurial setting.<br>• CPA or EA designation is not required but is considered a plus.<br>• Familiarity with accounting software such as CCH ProSystem Fx.<br>• Commitment to maintaining a consistent and stable career trajectory.<br>• Availability to work onsite during the initial training period, with flexibility to transition to a hybrid schedule.
