Network Engineer
We are looking for an experienced Network Engineer to join our team in Chesapeake, Virginia, on a Contract to permanent basis. This role involves designing and implementing high-performance networks that will support critical operations for a local government. The ideal candidate will have expertise in creating scalable, secure, and provider-grade network solutions.<br><br>Responsibilities:<br>• Design and implement provider-grade networks with scalability and redundancy across core, distribution, and edge layers.<br>• Configure and maintain Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) routing, including route reflection, policy controls, and failover mechanisms.<br>• Integrate robust security measures such as MD5 authentication, prefix filtering, firewalls, and DDoS mitigation strategies.<br>• Manage protocols like IS-IS, VPNs, QoS, and both IPv4 and IPv6 configurations.<br>• Perform hands-on installation and troubleshooting of routers, switches, and other network hardware.<br>• Collaborate with internal departments and external providers to ensure seamless network operations.<br>• Utilize monitoring tools such as dashboards and NetFlow to track performance and identify issues.<br>• Create and maintain detailed network documentation, including diagrams and operational runbooks.<br>• Work with vendor technologies such as Cisco routers, Palo Alto firewalls, and Infoblox platforms to optimize network performance.<br>• Provide escalation support and resolve critical incidents with a problem-solving mindset.
• At least 5 years of experience in designing and managing provider-grade networks.<br>• Proficiency in configuring Cisco routers and switches.<br>• Hands-on experience with Palo Alto and Cisco ASA firewalls.<br>• Advanced knowledge of Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) and related operations.<br>• Familiarity with municipal broadband or public sector networks is a plus.<br>• Strong communication skills for explaining technical designs to diverse stakeholders.<br>• Ability to troubleshoot complex network issues and implement effective solutions.<br>• Experience with network monitoring tools and documentation processes.
