Assistant Controller
<p>Local ABQ Company seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to oversee core accounting operations and support the financial health of a growing construction business. This role is responsible for month-end close, GAAP-compliant financial reporting, percentage-of-completion forecasting, WIP and margin analysis, and full lifecycle construction project accounting. You’ll partner closely with project managers and leadership to ensure accurate job cost data, assess risks and opportunities across revenue, margin, and cash flow, maintain KPI dashboards, support audits and annual budgeting, and contribute to ERP and systems improvements. The ideal candidate has a bachelor’s degree in accounting (CPA preferred), 5–7+ years of progressive accounting experience (construction strongly preferred), solid knowledge of US GAAP and ASC 606, strong Excel skills (Sage 300 CRE a plus), and a collaborative, analytical mindset with the ability to lead, problem-solve, and communicate effectively across teams.</p>
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field; CPA certification is preferred.<br>• 5–7+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within the construction industry.<br>• Proficiency in US GAAP standards and ASC 606 compliance.<br>• Advanced knowledge of Excel; experience with Sage 300 is a strong advantage.<br>• Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess financial risks and opportunities.<br>• Proven ability to lead and collaborate across teams effectively.<br>• Excellent communication skills to convey financial insights and recommendations.<br>• A detail-oriented mindset with a focus on accuracy and problem-solving.
