Where our salary data comes from

Each year, our starting salary projections are built through a detailed, multi-step process designed to reflect real hiring conditions across the Canadian marketplace. They’re based on compensation data for job candidates our Robert Half recruiters have placed with companies across the country, plus third-party job posting data from TextKernel we use for independent validation. To refine our estimates, we use advanced large language models to assess demand for roles, talent supply, and broader market conditions. Our local teams also contribute insights from their day-to-day work with hiring managers and candidates.

Salary and compensation numbers

Starting compensation, pay for someone new to a role, can vary significantly based on factors such as a candidate’s skills, experience and certifications, as well as other factors including demand for the role and industry growth. To reflect this variability, we report our compensation data in three levels: low, mid and high. The high level is not a cap and some salaries might increase depending on company size, industry, and other factors. The salary levels are based on the following candidate attributes: Low: The candidate is new to the role or has limited experience and is building necessary skills. Mid: The candidate has moderate experience in the role, meets most requirements or has equivalent transferable skills, and may also have relevant certifications. High: The candidate has extensive experience and advanced skills for the role, and may also have specialized certifications. The figures in the Robert Half Salary Guide represent starting salaries only, meaning the base pay for someone newly hired into a role. They do not include bonuses, benefits or perks.

How we account for regional differences

The salary ranges we list are national averages. Since compensation can vary significantly by geographic location, we provide local variances in the Robert Half Salary Guide, and you can use the latest Salary Calculator to adjust salaries to your specific market in Canada. Connect with a Robert Half recruiter in your area today: Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Calgary, Other Locations. To reflect local market conditions across Canada, we adjust salary ranges based on insights from our regional teams. Their deep understanding of hiring trends and economic factors helps us fine-tune compensation benchmarks for each area. These adjustments consider: Local economic conditions Cost of living Job growth Wage growth Hiring demand and the ability to attract skilled talent Variances for neighbouring cities in the region or similar cities in the country In highly competitive markets or for roles in high demand, employers may need to offer salaries above the guide’s starting ranges, especially if benefits, perks, or flexible work options are limited.
