We are looking for an experienced Controller to support a nonprofit organization in Washington, District of Columbia. This Long-term Contract opportunity is ideal for a finance leader who can provide strong oversight of accounting operations, strengthen financial controls, and guide an accurate close and reporting process. The role will play a key part in maintaining reliable financial records, supporting compliance obligations, and partnering with stakeholders on core financial matters. Responsibilities:• Direct the month-end and year-end close cycle, ensuring financial activity is recorded accurately and completed within established deadlines.• Oversee reconciliation of balance sheet accounts and investigate variances to maintain the integrity of the general ledger.• Manage nonprofit accounting activities in accordance with applicable standards, donor restrictions, and organizational reporting needs.• Coordinate preparation for the annual external audit by organizing schedules, supporting documentation, and responses to auditor inquiries.• Provide hands-on oversight of closing activities and ensure all year-end accounting requirements are completed thoroughly.• Assist with special accounting projects and process-related initiatives as needed during the engagement.

• Demonstrated experience serving as a Controller within a nonprofit environment.• Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles and financial reporting practices.• Proven ability to perform and review balance sheet account reconciliations with a high level of accuracy.• Hands-on experience leading month-end close and year-end closing activities.• Background supporting or managing annual external audit processes.• Strong understanding of ERP systems - NetSuite, Intacct, or MS Dynamics in particular• Ability to work independently in a contract setting while collaborating effectively with internal stakeholders.
