Controller
We are looking for an experienced Controller to lead accounting operations for a property-focused organization in Walnut Creek, California. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, strengthening reporting processes, and guiding the accounting team through complex deadlines and priorities. The ideal candidate brings deep accounting leadership experience, strong analytical judgment, and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of internal stakeholders.<br><br>Responsibilities:<br>• Oversee daily accounting activities and ensure financial records, reconciliations, and supporting documentation are completed accurately and on schedule.<br>• Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, delivering clear reporting that supports business decisions.<br>• Direct and mentor accounting staff, assigning work, monitoring performance, and promoting consistent adherence to internal controls.<br>• Manage property management accounting functions, including maintenance of financial data within relevant accounting platforms and related reporting tools.<br>• Coordinate audits, tax-related reporting, and compliance activities by organizing required records and responding to requests in a timely manner.<br>• Analyze financial results, identify variances or trends, and recommend corrective actions to improve accuracy and operational performance.<br>• Establish priorities across multiple deadlines, allocate resources effectively, and ensure critical deliverables are completed without delay.<br>• Partner with cross-functional teams to support documentation workflows, financial record retention, and process improvements tied to accounting operations.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.<br>• At least five years of senior-level accounting experience, with prior exposure to property management or real estate environments strongly preferred.<br>• Previous supervisory experience with the ability to lead teams, delegate responsibilities, and support employee development.<br>• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including strong working knowledge of Excel and accounting software systems.<br>• Experience with Yardi or Yardi Voyager is preferred.<br>• Solid understanding of financial reporting principles, tax compliance concepts, and accounting controls.<br>• Strong analytical, organizational, and planning abilities, with success managing competing priorities under tight deadlines.<br>• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across diverse groups.
