Controller
We are looking for an experienced Controller to lead accounting operations and financial reporting for a growing retail organization in San Diego, California. This role will oversee core accounting activities, strengthen reporting accuracy, and provide dependable financial insight to support business decisions. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in close management, multi-entity accounting, tax coordination, and process improvement within a fast-moving environment.<br><br>Responsibilities:<br>• Direct the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close cycles, ensuring financial results are completed accurately and on schedule.<br>• Review journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules while maintaining the integrity of the general ledger and related records.<br>• Produce monthly financial statements and management reports that deliver clear visibility into business performance.<br>• Oversee cost accounting, fixed asset accounting, and accounts receivable activities to support strong financial operations.<br>• Manage intercompany accounting across multiple entities, including reconciliations, eliminations, and issue resolution.<br>• Prepare consolidation schedules and support accurate reporting for a multi-entity business structure.<br>• Coordinate sales tax compliance activities and partner with external advisors on income tax reporting and related documentation.<br>• Support external audits by organizing schedules, maintaining documentation, and reinforcing internal control compliance.<br>• Improve accounting workflows, reporting processes, and system usage to increase efficiency, scalability, and accuracy.<br>• Coach and support the accounting team while fostering accountability, collaboration, and continuous development.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.<br>• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership or team supervision responsibilities.<br>• 3+ years of experience managing accounting teams and overseeing daily accounting operations.<br>• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, and general ledger management.<br>• Hands-on experience with month-end close, multi-entity accounting, and intercompany transactions.<br>• Background supporting sales tax compliance and income tax reporting activities.<br>• Advanced NetSuite experience, including reporting in a multi-entity environment.<br>• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills with strong analytical, organizational, and communication abilities.
