Controller
We are looking for a hands-on Controller to oversee the financial operations of a growing architecture firm in Vancouver, British Columbia. This position will play a key role in strengthening accounting practices, supporting project performance through accurate financial oversight, and providing leadership across core finance functions. The successful candidate will combine strong technical accounting expertise with the ability to improve processes and partner effectively with operational leaders.<br><br>Responsibilities:<br>• Lead daily accounting activities across the general ledger, ensuring accurate records and timely completion of month-end and year-end close cycles.<br>• Direct accounts payable, accounts receivable, invoicing, and collection efforts to maintain strong cash flow and reliable financial reporting.<br>• Manage project-based financial tracking, including job costing, work-in-progress analysis, and profitability reporting across multiple assignments.<br>• Prepare financial statements, forecasts, budgets, and performance analyses to support business planning and decision-making.<br>• Oversee payroll administration and monitor cash management activities, internal controls, and compliance with financial policies.<br>• Act as the finance lead for the selection, setup, data conversion, and launch of a new project accounting or ERP platform.<br>• Work closely with project managers and firm leadership to review project budgets, billing status, margins, and other operational financial metrics.<br>• Coordinate year-end audit preparation, tax support, and communication with external accounting advisors or service providers.<br>• Identify opportunities to streamline financial procedures, improve reporting accuracy, and increase the efficiency of accounting operations.<br>• Provide guidance and oversight to accounting or bookkeeping team members, supporting development and accountability where applicable.
<p>• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.</p><p>• At least five years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership responsibility within a Controller or similar senior finance role.</p><p>• Demonstrated involvement in implementing or upgrading an accounting, ERP, or project financial system, including configuration, migration, or user adoption support.</p><p>• Strong knowledge of project accounting, job costing, financial reporting, budgeting, and revenue tracking within a project-based services environment.</p><p>• Proficiency with accounting software, spreadsheet analysis, and financial reporting tools, including advanced Excel capabilities.</p><p>• Strong communication, analytical, and organizational skills with the ability to work effectively across departments.</p><p>• Experience in architecture, engineering, construction, or another project-driven services setting would be considered an asset.</p><p>• CPA designation, or meaningful progress toward completion, would be viewed favourably.</p><p><br></p><p>If this sounds like the role for you, please apply today!
