AI/ML Engineer job description

An AI/ML Engineer designs, develops and deploys artificial intelligence and machine learning solutions that improve business processes, automate workflows and support data-driven decision-making. They develop generative AI applications, machine learning models, intelligent systems, retrieval-based solutions and applications using large language models (LLMs), natural language processing and cloud-based AI platforms while supporting production deployment and model optimization.Working closely with software developers, data engineers, product teams and business stakeholders, AI/ML Engineers build scalable, reliable and responsible AI solutions that address organizational needs.

Typical AI/ML engineer duties:

Design, develop and deploy generative AI solutions using large language models (LLMs), machine learning technologies and AI development frameworks.Build and optimize machine learning pipelines that support model development, training, fine-tuning, evaluation and deployment.Develop retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) solutions, integrate vector databases and support applications that use enterprise data sources.Create AI-powered applications and intelligent workflows that improve automation, productivity and data-driven decision-making.Apply prompt engineering techniques and model optimization strategies to improve AI system performance, accuracy and reliability.Develop and maintain machine learning models, APIs and scalable AI systems within cloud-based environments.Monitor, troubleshoot and improve AI models and applications operating in production environments.Collaborate with software engineers, data engineers and business stakeholders to identify opportunities for AI adoption and deliver effective solutions.Apply best practices related to AI governance, security, data privacy and responsible AI development.Support the implementation of MLOps practices, including model lifecycle management, deployment processes, monitoring and continuous improvement.Evaluate emerging AI technologies, frameworks and platforms to improve AI capabilities and support future innovation.
