Assistant Controller
We are looking for an Assistant Controller to help strengthen the finance function and ensure dependable, timely accounting operations in Salt Lake City, Utah. This role will guide day-to-day accounting activities, support accurate financial reporting, and contribute to building processes that can scale with the business. The position also works closely with internal stakeholders and external partners to support compliance, reporting obligations, and operational improvements.<br><br>Responsibilities:<br>• Direct the monthly close cycle and deliver complete, accurate financial results within established deadlines.<br>• Oversee general ledger activity, including review of journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and analysis of financial fluctuations.<br>• Maintain accounting practices and internal controls that align with U.S. GAAP and support reliable reporting.<br>• Collaborate with outside advisors and service providers to meet tax filing and compliance requirements.<br>• Prepare financial information and supporting schedules for lenders and assist with ongoing debt covenant reporting.<br>• Supervise, mentor, and develop a small accounting team to promote strong performance and growth.<br>• Partner with operations, procurement, and FP&A to improve financial visibility and support business decisions.<br>• Identify and implement process enhancements that increase efficiency, accuracy, and scalability across accounting workflows.<br>• Lead procure-to-pay improvements, including accounts payable automation and related process optimization efforts.<br>• Contribute to finance system enhancements through configuration support, testing, training, and other special projects.
• Experience leading month-end close activities and maintaining a well-controlled general ledger environment.<br>• Strong background in financial reporting, account reconciliations, variance review, and audit support.<br>• Working knowledge of U.S. GAAP, internal controls, and technical accounting principles.<br>• Familiarity with external audit processes, financial statement audits, and compliance-focused reporting.<br>• Ability to manage and develop accounting staff while balancing hands-on operational responsibilities.<br>• Experience partnering with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders such as tax advisors or lenders.<br>• Proficiency with accounting systems and process improvement initiatives, including workflow automation.<br>• Knowledge of DCAA-related requirements is valued.
