Controller
<p>We are looking for an experienced Controller to lead the accounting function and provide reliable financial insight for the organization in Lubbock, Texas. This role is responsible for guiding a high-performing team, maintaining accurate and timely reporting, and strengthening processes that support sound financial management. The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting knowledge, a hands-on leadership style, and the ability to improve controls, reporting quality, and operational efficiency.</p><p><br></p><p>Responsibilities:</p><p>• Lead the day-to-day work of the accounting team by setting priorities, assigning ownership, monitoring progress, and reviewing completed deliverables for accuracy.</p><p>• Manage the monthly close cycle, ensuring general ledger activity is complete, reconciliations are finalized on schedule, and financial statements are prepared in a timely manner.</p><p>• Establish and uphold structured closing procedures, account reconciliation routines, and documentation standards across the department.</p><p>• Examine significant balance sheet accounts, supporting schedules, and subsidiary records to confirm completeness and resolve discrepancies.</p><p>• Approve journal entries and other accounting adjustments while identifying root causes of errors and implementing lasting corrective actions.</p><p>• Oversee core accounting operations, including payables, receivables, cash activity, and payroll-related accounting processes.</p><p>• Maintain accurate project and job cost reporting by ensuring expenses are recorded to the appropriate job, phase, cost code, department, equipment unit, or inventory category.</p><p>• Supervise accounting for inventory, fixed assets, depreciation, equipment, plants, quarries, and material movements while preserving the integrity of financial records.</p><p>• Produce financial analyses covering profitability, cash position, cost trends, asset usage, and notable variances, and coordinate audit support with complete and organized documentation.</p><p>• Improve accounting policies, internal controls, workflow efficiency, staff cross-training, and system-related processes to ensure dependable coverage and timely completion of critical work.</p>
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.<br>• Demonstrated experience in a Controller or senior accounting leadership position.<br>• Strong knowledge of financial reporting, general ledger management, month-end close, and account reconciliation practices.<br>• Experience overseeing accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll accounting, fixed assets, and cash management activities.<br>• Ability to develop internal controls, standardize accounting procedures, and resolve process-related issues effectively.<br>• Familiarity with job cost accounting, contract reporting, and project-based financial tracking.<br>• Proficiency with accounting systems and spreadsheet-based financial analysis.<br>• Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage deadlines and support team development.
