Senior Financial Reporting Accountant

Senior Financial Reporting Accountant Job Description

Professionals in a senior financial reporting position must have strong knowledge of GAAP, SEC reporting, internal controls and Sarbanes-Oxley requirements. Candidates should also possess knowledge of several areas of finance and accounting, including tax, cost and general ledger accounting. A bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting is required, and many companies prefer those with a CPA and experience in public accounting. Businesses look for candidates with at least three years of experience in a staff-level finance and accounting role, as well as good writing and verbal skills.

Typical senior financial reporting accountant duties:

Analyzing and preparing complex general ledger account reconciliations and journal entriesAnalyzing general ledger accounts and resolving discrepanciesAssisting in preparation of public filings (10-K, 10-Q, 8-K and other SEC filings)Preparing and analyzing financial reportsAssisting with monthly and quarterly closingPerforming technical accounting researchHelping coordinate and facilitate quarterly and annual external audits
