CIOs ranked the top reasons they would most likely remove a candidate from consideration for an IT position:


1. Frequent job hopping
2. Bad formatting, sloppiness or typos*
2. Too long or too much unnecessary information*
4. Not highlighting strategic thinking and business
5. Overuse of technical jargon
6. Overly complicated
7. No context around prior experience


1. Speaking negatively about past employers or managers
2. Poor body language, such as no eye contact or a weak handshake
3. Unprepared for technical questions
4. No clear understanding of the business*
4. Ineffective explanation of career history*
6. Unprofessional dress
7. No “thank you” or follow-up after the interview
