Sales & Use Tax Accountant
<p>Our trusted client is seeking an experienced Sales & Use Tax Accountant Consultant for a long-term project. This role involves managing multi-state tax compliance, reporting, and filings while ensuring accuracy and adherence to tax regulations. The ideal candidate will bring extensive expertise in sales tax processes and software systems, contributing to the optimization of our tax-related operations. This fully onsite role will report to the corporate controller and is located in Macomb, Michigan. </p><p><br></p><p>The day-to-day responsibilities include: </p><p><br></p><p>• Manage multi-state sales tax compliance, including exemption certificates, direct pay permits, state registrations, and tax filings.</p><p>• Utilize and maintain sales tax reporting software, with preferred experience in Avalara Tax systems.</p><p>• Collaborate with internal teams and tax advisors to coordinate tasks and ensure compliance with state tax regulations.</p><p>• Collect, organize, and maintain sales tax certificates for various states.</p><p>• Prioritize tasks effectively to address tax liabilities in states with significant exposure.</p><p>• Gain insights into Avalara and internal software configurations to enhance understanding of invoicing and sales tax processes.</p><p>• Recommend improvements to order acceptance, customer invoicing, sales tax billing, and reporting processes.</p><p>• Assist with state tax registrations and reporting to meet compliance requirements.</p><p>• Develop expertise in voluntary disclosure agreements to mitigate potential risks.</p>
<p>The ideal candidate will have the following skill set: </p><p><br></p><p>• Minimum of 5 years of experience in sales and use tax accounting.</p><p>• Proficiency in managing corporate tax returns and sales tax processes.</p><p>• Strong knowledge of multi-state tax regulations and compliance.</p><p>• Familiarity with Avalara Tax or similar sales tax reporting software.</p><p>• Advanced Excel skills to support data analysis and reporting.</p><p>• Ability to prioritize tasks and manage deadlines effectively.</p><p>• Experience with tax-related software systems and their configurations.</p><p>• Excellent communication skills for collaboration with teams and advisors.</p>
