Technical Writer
<p>Robert Half is seeking an experienced <strong>Technical or Policy Writer</strong> to support a large public sector organization with a key documentation project. This role focuses on revising, consolidating, and refining internal policy materials into a single, clear, and compliant employee manual. The project is ideal for a skilled writer who understands how to organize complex information, streamline existing materials, and ensure alignment with internal policies and regulatory standards. The selected professional will work closely with leadership and HR stakeholders to deliver a cohesive and user-friendly final product.</p><p><br></p><p><strong>Location</strong>: 100% Remote- (Oregon-based location) </p><p><strong>Duration:</strong> 2-3 months at 40 hours, or longer if part time</p><p><strong>Hours: </strong>Flexible - open to parttime or full-time schedule</p><p><strong>Schedule: </strong>Pacific Time Zone, Flexible hours, with optional check-ins onsite every other week </p><p><strong>Equipment: </strong>Computer- Provided by client </p><p><strong>Onboarding Requirements</strong>: Background Check </p><p><strong>Pay: </strong>$35-42/hour </p><p><br></p><p><strong>Key Responsibilities</strong></p><ul><li>Review and edit existing policy and employee manuals for clarity, accuracy, and consistency in tone and format.</li><li>Consolidate multiple existing documents into one streamlined, comprehensive manual.</li><li>Write and update policies, procedures, and supporting documentation (such as FAQs or summaries) to improve readability and alignment with current standards.</li><li>Ensure all materials comply with applicable regulations and internal guidelines.</li><li>Collaborate with HR, legal, and other internal subject matter experts to confirm accuracy and finalize updates.</li><li>Format and organize content to ensure a professional, consistent presentation across documents.</li><li>Provide recommendations for document structure, flow, and organization to improve usability.</li></ul><p><br></p><p><br></p>
<p><strong>op Skills & Qualifications</strong></p><ul><li>Proven experience as a <strong>Technical Writer or Policy Writer</strong>, ideally within HR, public sector, or compliance-driven environments.</li><li>Strong writing and editing skills with the ability to translate complex content into clear, accessible language.</li><li>Familiarity with employee manuals, standard operating procedures, or union contract documentation preferred.</li><li>Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Word and PDF editing tools).</li><li>Excellent formatting skills and attention to detail.</li><li>Tech-savvy and able to efficiently navigate and organize digital files and document systems.</li><li>Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to liaise with multiple internal stakeholders.</li></ul><p><strong>Nice-to-Have Experience</strong></p><ul><li>Background in policy, government, or public sector documentation.</li><li>Experience working with union environments or regulated industries.</li><li>Understanding of document accessibility standards and compliance requirements.</li></ul><p><br></p>
