Senior-level tax accountants should have at least three years of experience in the field, as well as a bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field. Pursuit of a master’s degree in taxation also is valued. Organizations look for candidates well-versed in accounting for income taxes and who have strong analytical, technical and organizational skills, along with proficiency in Excel and tax software. Firms also seek professionals who actively build visibility for their career and the firm. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are also required.
