Assistant Controller
<p>We are looking for an Assistant Controller to join a organization in Winnipeg, Manitoba. This role is suited to a finance specialist who can oversee core accounting activities, support reliable financial reporting, and help strengthen the overall performance of the finance function. The successful candidate will bring strong technical accounting knowledge, sound judgment, and the ability to collaborate effectively with both finance colleagues and operational leaders.</p><p><br></p><p>Responsibilities:</p><p>• Oversee monthly and annual close activities to ensure financial results are completed accurately and delivered within established timelines.</p><p>• Examine reconciliations, supporting schedules, and intercompany accounts, resolving discrepancies and following up on outstanding items promptly.</p><p>• Prepare for the annual audit by organizing documentation, reviewing schedules, and ensuring records are complete and ready for external review.</p><p>• Provide day-to-day guidance to finance team members, offering feedback, coaching, and support for ongoing career development.</p><p>• Contribute to budgeting and forecasting cycles while preparing analysis that compares actual performance against financial plans.</p><p>• Enhance accounting controls, policies, and procedures by identifying gaps, recommending improvements, and promoting consistent best practices.</p><p>• Monitor compliance with statutory filings, tax obligations, banking requirements, and any applicable financial covenant reporting.</p><p>• Partner with leaders across the business to deliver financial insight, interpret results, and support informed operational decision-making.</p><p>• Assist with finance system-related initiatives by supporting data accuracy, testing, process alignment, and adoption of standardized workflows.</p><p>• Take part in additional finance projects and departmental priorities as business needs evolve.</p>
<p>• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.</p><p>• CPA designation is required.</p><p>• At least 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including direct involvement in month-end and year-end close activities.</p><p>• Strong capability in financial statement preparation, account reconciliation review, and variance analysis.</p><p>• Experience working in environments with multiple entities, intercompany activity, or complex corporate structures is preferred.</p><p>• Proven ability to lead or supervise accounting staff, including coaching and performance support.</p><p>• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, along with strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.</p><p>• Experience with accounting systems and ERP implementations is considered an asset. </p>
