We are looking for an experienced Controller to lead financial oversight, strengthen reporting practices, and support sound decision-making across the organization in Waterloo, Ontario. This role is well suited to a finance specialist who can balance day-to-day accounting leadership with complex funding compliance, audit coordination, and control improvements. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining financial integrity, improving visibility across entities, and guiding special projects related to financial governance.<br><br>Responsibilities:<br>• Oversee the organization’s accounting operations and provide leadership across core finance activities, including reporting, budgeting, payroll oversight, and general financial administration.<br>• Administer federal and provincial funding programs by monitoring eligibility, tracking allocations, and ensuring reporting obligations are completed accurately and on schedule.<br>• Maintain strong grant controls by reviewing funding usage carefully to prevent overlap between programs and to ensure expenditures are assigned appropriately.<br>• Act as the primary finance contact for external auditors and support recurring coordination activities involving the organization and its related subsidiary.<br>• Develop, document, and enhance financial controls to address identified gaps, strengthen compliance, and improve the reliability of financial processes.<br>• Provide financial oversight across the parent organization and its wholly owned for-profit subsidiary, with attention to risk, accountability, and consolidated visibility.<br>• Lead follow-up activities related to prior audit findings and implement practical measures to resolve issues within required timelines.<br>• Support finance and compliance initiatives, including ad hoc analysis, process reviews, and special projects that require strong technical accounting knowledge.<br>• Partner with internal staff responsible for payroll, benefits, and related administrative functions to ensure accurate financial coordination and reporting.

• 7+ years of progressive experience in accounting, finance, or controllership positions.<br>• Strong knowledge of accounting operations, financial reporting, budgeting, and month-end or year-end processes.<br>• Demonstrated experience managing grants, contribution agreements, or other regulated funding programs with detailed reporting requirements.<br>• Solid understanding of internal controls, audit preparation, and compliance practices within a multi-entity environment.<br>• Proficiency with accounting software systems and the ability to work effectively with financial data and ad hoc analysis.<br>• Experience overseeing or collaborating on payroll-related financial processes.<br>• Ability to communicate technical financial information clearly to auditors, leadership, and cross-functional stakeholders.<br>• An accounting designation or equivalent senior-level finance expertise is considered an asset.
