Litigation Associate
<p>We are looking for a <strong>Litigation Associate </strong>to join a legal team in Toronto, Ontario, supporting a varied practice focused on liability and property matters. This position offers the opportunity to work on files involving institutional, specialized, and general liability disputes while collaborating with lawyers across the practice. The role is well suited to a lawyer who is comfortable managing litigation tasks in a dynamic environment and contributing both independently and as part of a broader team.</p><p><br></p><p><strong>Responsibilities</strong>:</p><p>• Handle litigation files involving liability defence and property-related disputes from initial assessment through ongoing file management.</p><p>• Prepare, review, and revise pleadings, motion materials, correspondence, and other legal documents with a high degree of accuracy.</p><p>• Support matters involving universities, religious organizations, practitioners, and other clients facing general liability claims.</p><p>• Conduct legal research, analyze case developments, and provide practical recommendations to support litigation strategy.</p><p>• Coordinate document organization, production, and file maintenance using case management and document management systems.</p><p>• Attend discoveries, motions, mediations, and other litigation steps as appropriate to the level of experience.</p><p>• Work with multiple lawyers across the firm and respond effectively to assignments from different members of the legal team.</p><p>• Assist with insurance-related matters, including defence work and, where applicable, coverage files.</p>
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in litigation, ideally with exposure to insurance defence, liability, or property matters.<br>• Demonstrated ability to draft legal documents, including pleadings, motion records, contracts, and related correspondence.<br>• Strong working knowledge of litigation procedures, claim administration, and file management practices.<br>• Experience using legal technology such as case management software, document management platforms, Adobe Acrobat, and Microsoft Office tools.<br>• Ability to manage competing priorities, adapt to changing demands, and work effectively in a collaborative practice environment.<br>• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong attention to detail and sound judgment.<br>• Comfortable working in a hybrid setting with regular in-office presence in Toronto, Ontario.
