Controller
<p>We are looking for an experienced Controller/ Director of Finance to join a Not for profit organization in Kitchener, Ontario on a Long-term Contract basis. This position will lead core accounting and finance activities, support sound business planning, and provide clear financial insight to senior leadership. The successful candidate will bring strong technical expertise, a practical approach to risk and compliance, and the ability to guide a finance team in a fast-paced environment.</p><p><br></p><p>Responsibilities:</p><p>• Lead the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and alignment with reporting standards.</p><p>• Oversee end-to-end payroll administration for two unionized employee groups and one non-union employee group, ensuring consistent processing and compliance with applicable requirements.</p><p>• Develop budgets, forecasts, and financial models that support operational planning and help identify performance trends, business risks, and potential opportunities.</p><p>• Provide meaningful financial analysis and board-level reporting to support decision-making, strategic discussions, and overall business performance.</p><p>• Maintain strong internal controls and monitor finance-related risks to support regulatory compliance and sound governance practices.</p><p>• Supervise, coach, and support a team of five finance professionals, setting priorities and promoting a high standard of work across the function.</p><p>• Partner with operational leaders to review financial results, explain variances, and recommend actions that improve financial outcomes.</p><p>• Support ongoing improvements in finance processes and reporting practices to increase efficiency, reliability, and visibility across the organization.</p>
<p>• 7+ years of progressive experience in accounting or finance, including experience in a Controller, Director of Finance or similar leadership capacity.</p><p>• Demonstrated expertise in budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and board reporting.</p><p>• Strong understanding of full-cycle accounting, period-end close processes, and the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual statements.</p><p>• Experience overseeing payroll for both unionized and non-union employee groups.</p><p>• Solid knowledge of risk management, internal controls, and financial compliance requirements.</p><p>• Proven ability to lead, mentor, and manage a finance team effectively.</p><p>• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to present financial information clearly to leadership.</p>
