- <p>We are looking for an experienced Director of Accounting to lead financial operations and provide strong oversight of financial reporting, accounting, compliance, and human resournces for a mission-driven nonprofit. This role partners closely with executive leadership and department leaders to strengthen budgeting, support informed decision-making, and maintain reliable financial controls across the organization. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in nonprofit accounting, grant oversight, and audit coordination, along with a leadership style that develops staff and upholds accountability.</p><p><br></p><p>Responsibilities:</p><p>• Lead the organization’s accounting function, ensuring financial activity is recorded accurately, consistently, and in accordance with U.S. GAAP and nonprofit reporting standards.</p><p>• Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities, including journal entry review, reconciliations, supporting schedules, and final financial statement preparation.</p><p>• Design, maintain, and regularly assess accounting policies, workflows, and internal controls to protect assets and support dependable financial reporting.</p><p>• Analyze financial performance, cash position, and emerging risks, then provide clear guidance and timely updates to executive leadership.</p><p>• Partner with department heads and senior leadership to build budgets, track spending trends, and promote responsible use of organizational resources.</p><p>• Manage audit preparation and external financial reviews by coordinating documentation, responding to requests, and helping ensure a smooth review process.</p><p>• Administer grant accounting activities, including tracking restricted funding, monitoring compliance requirements, and supporting accurate fund reporting.</p><p>• Supervise accounting team members by setting priorities, reviewing work quality, coaching performance, and fostering ongoing growth.</p><p>• Develop management reports and board-ready financial information that supports transparency, planning, and organizational oversight.</p>
