Medical Coding Manager job description

The medical coding manager oversees the coding operations for healthcare services to ensure accuracy, compliance and timely processing of medical records. This role manages coding staff, monitors performance and implements best practices to maintain high standards in documentation and billing.Working closely with clinical teams, revenue cycle management and compliance departments, the medical coding manager ensures adherence to regulatory guidelines and payer requirements. This position plays a critical role in optimizing coding accuracy, reducing claim denials and supporting financial performance.

Typical medical coding manager duties:

Supervise medical coding staff and provide training, guidance and performance evaluationsEnsure accurate assignment of ICD-10, CPT and HCPCS codes for medical procedures and diagnosesMonitor coding quality and conduct audits to maintain compliance with industry standards and regulationsCollaborate with physicians and clinical teams to clarify documentation and resolve coding discrepanciesDevelop and implement policies and procedures for coding operations and workflow efficiencyStay current on coding guidelines, payer requirements and regulatory changesPrepare reports and metrics to track coding productivity, accuracy and revenue impactSupport revenue cycle initiatives by reducing claim denials and improving reimbursement processes
