Controller
<p>On behalf of our client, we are looking for a Controller to lead core accounting operations and provide reliable financial information for an Edmonton based bioresearch company. This position is responsible for overseeing IFRS financial reporting, strengthening reporting accuracy, and maintaining the quality of financial records used by leadership. Working closely with senior leaders and external advisors, the successful candidate will combine hands-on accounting expertise with process improvement and team oversight. This is an excellent opportunity for a finance specialist seeking ownership, autonomy, and continued career development.</p><p><br></p><p>Responsibilities:</p><p><br></p><p>• Direct the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities to ensure financial results are completed accurately and within required timelines.</p><p>• Prepare and review financial statements, internal reports, and supporting analysis that help management assess business performance and plan effectively.</p><p>• Oversee account reconciliations across cash, receivables, payables, payroll, and intercompany balances to maintain complete and dependable records.</p><p>• Safeguard the accuracy of the general ledger and supporting documentation so the organization is well prepared for audit and external reporting requirements.</p><p>• Step into day-to-day accounting tasks when needed, including detailed transactional work, to keep deliverables on schedule.</p><p>• Monitor key financial and operational indicators, identify meaningful trends, and highlight risks or opportunities for improvement.</p><p>• Strengthen accounting workflows, internal controls, and documentation to improve efficiency and reduce manual effort across the finance function.</p><p>• Lead, coach, and support the senior accounting technician while fostering strong collaboration with leadership, banking partners, and external advisors.</p><p>• Prepare working papers and reporting schedules aligned with IFRS requirements, and assist with quarterly reviews and annual audit activities.</p>
<p>Requirements:</p><p><br></p><p>• CPA designation completed or in the final stages of completion.</p><p>• At least 2 years of experience in accounting, audit, or a related finance environment.</p><p>• Solid knowledge of full-cycle accounting, including payroll processing and account reconciliations.</p><p>• Working knowledge of IFRS or strong familiarity with audit and financial reporting standards.</p><p>• Advanced or developing advanced Excel skills with the ability to work efficiently with financial data.</p><p>• Strong organizational skills, careful attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing deadlines effectively.</p><p><br></p><p>This is a great role for someone exiting public practice and wanting to be mentored by a strong CFO in your first industry role.
