Controller
We are looking for an experienced Controller to join a public sector organization in Sacramento, California on a Contract basis. This fully remote opportunity is suited for a finance leader who can quickly understand operations, provide strong oversight across accounting functions, and guide the organization through audit-related activities. The role will play a key part in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting reporting obligations, and strengthening controls over public funds.<br><br>Responsibilities:<br>• Direct daily accounting activities, including general ledger oversight, payroll administration, and coordination of core financial processes.<br>• Lead audit preparation and serve as a primary point of contact for external and internal auditors to ensure timely, accurate support.<br>• Produce financial statements and management reports that reflect compliance requirements and support informed decision-making.<br>• Supervise a small accounting team, assign priorities, and provide day-to-day guidance to direct reports.<br>• Review and reconcile accounts to improve accuracy, resolve discrepancies, and help bring financial records up to date.<br>• Oversee the handling of public funds with attention to accountability, transparency, and adherence to applicable standards.<br>• Work within Microsoft Dynamics GP and Concur to manage financial data, expenses, and reporting activities.<br>• Contribute to procurement-related financial support as organizational needs evolve.
• Demonstrated experience serving in a Controller or senior accounting leadership role.<br>• Background in public sector finance and managing funds subject to governmental or public accountability standards.<br>• Proven success leading audit support activities and coordinating with audit teams.<br>• Strong knowledge of accounting operations, including payroll, reconciliations, and financial reporting.<br>• Experience supervising staff and managing the work of direct reports.<br>• Hands-on familiarity with Microsoft Dynamics GP and Concur; exposure to SAP is helpful.<br>• Ability to learn quickly, adapt to changing priorities, and identify practical solutions in a remote work environment.
