We’re partnering with a fast-growing prop tech/Insurtech company in New York, NY to hire a Controller for a founding finance leadership role.This is a rare opportunity to build the finance function from the ground up for a growing insurtech business while also overseeing financial / management accounting and HR operations for an affiliated early-stage insurance entity. Position is mostly remote with a few days a month in midtown NYC office. What you’ll do:· Own accounting operations across GL, AP/AR, payroll, reconciliations, and monthly close.· Build budgeting, forecasting, scenario modeling, and board-ready reporting.· Establish controls, GAAP-aligned policies, audit readiness, and tax/compliance processes.· Manage insurance licensing, regulatory administration, and premium tax obligations.· Support payroll, benefits, onboarding/offboarding, and lightweight HR operations.· Partner with claims teams on payments, recoveries, commissions tracking, and reconciliations.

· 6–10+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience.· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA strongly preferred.· Strong GAAP knowledge and hands-on experience with close, reporting, and core accounting operations.· Proven success in building processes, systems, and controls in a startup, fintech, Insurtech, or insurance environment.· QuickBooks experience preferred; insurance brokerage or E&S insurance experience is a major plus.
