Controller
We are looking for an experienced Controller to lead the accounting and finance function for a well-established trades-focused business in Golden Valley, Minnesota. This position serves as the senior financial leader on site, partnering closely with company ownership to support sound decision-making and long-term business performance. The Controller will oversee day-to-day financial operations, guide a small accounting team, and ensure accurate reporting, strong controls, and effective management of inventory and operational costs.<br><br>Responsibilities:<br>• Direct the full accounting cycle, including general ledger activity, reconciliations, and the timely completion of monthly and year-end close processes.<br>• Provide financial leadership to company ownership by delivering clear analysis, reporting, and recommendations that support business planning and operational decisions.<br>• Supervise, coach, and develop a small accounting team while establishing priorities and maintaining accuracy across daily workflows.<br>• Manage inventory accounting activities and monitor cost movements to ensure financial records align with operational and distribution activity.<br>• Maintain financial statements and accounting practices in accordance with U.S. GAAP and internal reporting standards.<br>• Oversee accounting matters tied to construction or trades-based projects, including cost tracking and financial review where applicable.<br>• Strengthen internal controls, refine accounting procedures, and improve the reliability of financial data across the organization.<br>• Support accounting system administration and process updates within Sage and related tools to enhance reporting and efficiency.
• 10+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience, including leadership responsibility within a controller or senior accounting role.<br>• Strong background in U.S. GAAP with the ability to produce accurate financial reporting and maintain compliant accounting practices.<br>• Hands-on experience with month-end close, account reconciliations, and management of the general ledger.<br>• Demonstrated knowledge of inventory accounting within a distribution, wholesale, or product-based business environment.<br>• Experience supporting construction, trades, or project-based accounting activities is strongly preferred.<br>• Prior success leading or mentoring accounting staff in a small to mid-sized business setting.<br>• Proficiency with Sage accounting software and confidence working within integrated financial systems.
