We are looking for an experienced Controller to join a government contracting organization in Lexington Park, Maryland on a contract-to-permanent basis. This role is ideal for a hands-on accounting leader who can bring stability, strengthen day-to-day financial operations, and guide a small team through a period of refinement and growth. The position offers the opportunity to make an immediate impact while helping shape a more disciplined and scalable accounting function.<br><br>Responsibilities:<br>• Oversee daily accounting activities and ensure core financial processes are executed accurately and on schedule.<br>• Lead, coach, and support a three-person accounting team while fostering accountability and career development.<br>• Provide direct guidance to entry-level staff involved in accounts payable and billing functions to improve performance and consistency.<br>• Resolve outstanding accounting issues by addressing receivables balances, payment application, final invoicing, and aging payables items.<br>• Perform and review balance sheet and bank reconciliations to restore completeness and improve the reliability of financial records.<br>• Manage month-end close activities and help maintain accurate reporting for a government contracting environment.<br>• Strengthen accounting workflows by introducing clearer procedures, better controls, and more effective reporting within Deltek Costpoint.<br>• Partner with leadership to support the ongoing development of the finance function as the organization continues to expand.

<p>• 10+ years of accounting or controllership experience, including leadership responsibility within an accounting team.</p><p>• Prior experience in government contracting or Department of Defense environments is required.</p><p>• Working knowledge of DCAA compliance standards and related accounting practices.</p><p>• Strong understanding of contract types such as cost-plus and time-and-materials arrangements.</p><p>• Hands-on experience using Deltek Costpoint in a complex accounting setting.</p><p>• Proven ability to manage month-end close, reconciliations, billing, and accounts payable activities.</p><p>• Comfortable stepping into changing environments and resolving backlog, cleanup, and process improvement needs.</p>
