<p><strong>Locations:</strong> Gaithersburg, MD • Eagan, MN • Egg Harbor, NJ</p><p><strong>Schedule:</strong> Hybrid (3 days onsite / 2 days remote)</p><p><strong>Clearance:</strong> Ability to obtain and maintain Public Trust (U.S. Citizenship required)</p><p><strong>Overview</strong></p><p>We are seeking a Junior Software Engineer with AI-enabled development experience to support a large-scale modernization program involving real‑time, high‑availability, safety‑critical systems. This role combines traditional software engineering with emerging AI‑augmented development techniques to enhance delivery, code quality, and system performance.</p><p>This position is ideal for engineers who actively apply AI in their day‑to‑day workflow and want to contribute to a mission-critical, complex engineering environment.</p><p><br></p><p><strong>What You’ll Do</strong></p><ul><li>Design, develop, test, and maintain software for real-time, high-availability systems.</li><li>Use AI-assisted development tools to accelerate coding, refactoring, debugging, and automated test generation.</li><li>Apply responsible AI practices across the full SDLC — requirements, design, implementation, testing, documentation, and code review.</li><li>Analyze complex system requirements and translate them into efficient, maintainable designs.</li><li>Develop and maintain automation scripts across development, test, and production environments.</li><li>Promote code quality, reuse, traceability, and cross-team collaboration.</li></ul>
<p><strong>Required Qualifications</strong></p><p><strong>AI-Driven Engineering Experience</strong></p><p>We are specifically seeking engineers who integrate AI into their daily workflow.</p><p>Hands-on experience with:</p><ul><li>AI-assisted coding tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, or similar) for:</li><li>Code generation and refactoring</li><li>Debugging and automated test creation</li><li>IDE‑integrated AI workflows</li><li>Large language model platforms (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini, etc.)</li><li>Writing effective prompts and validating AI-generated output</li><li>Human-in-the-loop development practices</li><li>Evaluating AI output for correctness, performance, safety, and bias</li><li>Incorporating AI/ML techniques into software engineering processes</li><li>Automated testing frameworks</li></ul><p><strong>Core Technical Qualifications</strong></p><ul><li>Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field with 4–8 years of experience</li><li>OR Master’s degree with 2–6 years of experience</li><li>Strong object-oriented programming experience</li><li>Proficiency in C, C++, and/or Ada (Ada preferred but not required)</li><li>Experience developing real-time, multi-threaded systems</li><li>Familiarity with Linux (Red Hat), virtual machines, and hypervisors</li><li>Experience with low-level communication protocols (TCP/IP, UDP, SCTP)</li><li>Experience with hardware or complex system integration</li><li>Experience with source control and configuration management tools</li><li>Strong communication skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively</li><li>Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance</li><li>U.S. Citizenship required</li></ul><p><strong>Additional Role Expectations</strong></p><ul><li>Work independently on moderately complex tasks with moderate impact on the project team.</li><li>Address technical issues using internal best practices and team collaboration.</li><li>Communicate effectively with engineers, project managers, and other stakeholders.</li><li>Apply standard engineering principles, processes, and tools across the software development life cycle.</li></ul>
