Database Administrator
<p>We are seeking an experienced <strong>Database Administrator</strong> to join a mid-to-large enterprise environment supporting critical business systems. This is an <strong>onsite, contract-to-hire</strong> opportunity with long-term potential for the right candidate.</p><p>What You’ll Be Doing</p><p>This role blends day-to-day operational support with project-based work:</p><ul><li>Support urgent database requests and tickets (approximately 5% of time)</li><li>Lead and assist with <strong>upgrades, migrations, and project work</strong> (about 50%)</li><li>Perform <strong>monitoring, health checks, and automation oversight</strong> (about 45%)</li><li>Review backup reports and troubleshoot backup or job failures</li><li>Support enterprise backup and disaster recovery processes</li><li>Collaborate with infrastructure and application teams across on-prem and cloud environments</li></ul><p>Technical Environment</p><p>You’ll work in a complex, enterprise-scale environment that includes:</p><ul><li>Microsoft SQL Server (2016, 2022)</li><li>Oracle (training and ramp-up supported)</li><li>Linux and Linux imaging</li><li>VMware (with potential changes in virtualization platforms)</li><li>Some Hyper-V</li><li>CIS imaging standards</li><li>Enterprise backup and disaster recovery solutions</li><li>On-prem and cloud-based systems</li><li>Support for large, mission-critical platforms (including SAP and SQL-based systems)</li></ul><p>Required Experience & Skills</p><ul><li><strong>5+ years of Database Administration experience</strong></li><li>Strong SQL Server administration background (SQL Server 2012 and newer required)</li><li>Hands-on experience with:</li><li>Daily database administration and health checks</li><li>Performance monitoring, tuning, and trend analysis</li><li>SQL Server upgrades and migrations (especially 2016 → 2022)</li><li>Working knowledge of:</li><li>SSMS and SSIS concepts</li><li>Backup, recovery, and maintenance strategies</li><li>Comfortable working in Linux-based environments</li><li>Willingness and ability to <strong>learn Oracle administration</strong> (prior Oracle experience not required)</li></ul><p>Nice to Have</p><ul><li>Experience in mixed virtualization environments (VMware / Hyper-V)</li><li>Exposure to enterprise-scale or highly regulated environments</li><li>Experience supporting both on-prem and cloud database platforms</li></ul><p>Why This Role?</p><ul><li>Clear path from <strong>contract to full-time</strong></li><li>Stable, long-term opportunity in a complex environment</li><li>Hands-on exposure to upgrades, migrations, and modernization efforts</li><li>Opportunity to expand skills across SQL Server, Oracle, and enterprise infrastructure</li></ul><p>If you’re a hands-on DBA who enjoys balancing operational support with project work—and you’re open to learning new technologies—this could be a great next step.</p>
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in database administration within an enterprise environment.<br>• Proficiency in Microsoft SQL Server administration, with experience in versions 2012 and newer.<br>• Hands-on expertise in performance monitoring, tuning, and database health checks.<br>• Familiarity with backup, recovery strategies, and maintenance protocols.<br>• Comfortable working in Linux-based systems, including Linux imaging.<br>• Willingness to acquire skills in Oracle database administration, even without prior experience.<br>• Knowledge of enterprise-scale database platforms, including on-premises and cloud environments.<br>• Experience with virtualization platforms such as VMware and Hyper-V is preferred.
