Payroll Supervisor/Manager
<p>The Payroll Supervisor is responsible for overseeing payroll operations for a unionized workforce of 1,400 employees. Utilizing Meditech payroll software, this role ensures the accurate and timely processing of payroll, maintains compliance with applicable regulations, and completes all related month-end and year-end reporting tasks. The Payroll Supervisor also manages annual reporting requirements, reconciliation processes, and coordinates staff scheduling. This is a leadership role requiring exceptional organizational, communication, and multitasking skills.</p><p><br></p><p><strong>Key Responsibilities:</strong></p><ul><li>Supervise and oversee the end-to-end payroll processing for a unionized workforce of 1,400 employees, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with collective agreements and legal requirements.</li><li>Utilize Meditech software for payroll operations, troubleshooting issues as they arise and optimizing system functionality.</li><li>Manage and execute month-end and year-end payroll processes, including the preparation and submission of reports.</li><li>Prepare and distribute annual payroll-related documentation, including T4s, T4As, NR4s, and T2200s, in compliance with Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) requirements.</li><li>Perform reconciliations and submissions for government and regulatory requirements such as WSIB, EHT, and HOOPP Member Data Collection (MDC).</li><li>Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, including the Employment Standards Act (ESA) and other relevant legislation.</li><li>Coordinate and maintain accurate staff scheduling records, ensuring alignment with union agreements and organizational policies.</li><li>Collaborate with HR and Finance teams on payroll-related matters, providing guidance and support as needed.</li><li>Supervise the payroll team, providing mentorship, training, and performance management to ensure operational efficiency and effectiveness.</li><li>Stay updated on payroll regulations, collective bargaining agreements, and industry best practices to ensure compliance and process optimization.</li></ul><p><br></p>
<p><strong>Skills and Qualifications:</strong></p><ul><li>Minimum 5 years' experience in payroll, preferably in a unionized environment.</li><li>Proficiency with Meditech software or similar payroll systems.</li><li>Strong understanding of Canadian payroll regulations, guidelines, and compliance requirements, including year-end processes and government filings.</li><li>Solid knowledge of collective agreements and their impact on payroll processing and staff scheduling.</li><li>Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.</li><li>Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with keen attention to detail.</li><li>Effective leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills for team supervision and cross-department collaboration.</li><li>Payroll certification (e.g., CPM or PCP from the Canadian Payroll Association) is required.</li></ul>
