Accountant

 •
Why You Should Apply:

Maybe you're in Audit or Tax, and you've been thinking it's time to make your first move into industry.
Or perhaps you've already made that move, but your current role has become a cycle of month-end, reporting and compliance with little opportunity to broaden your experience.

You enjoy technical accounting. You like understanding legislation, getting things right and being the person people rely on for advice. But you'd also like to work in a business where your expertise influences decisions, not just ticks compliance boxes.

This isn't a role where you'll disappear into a large finance team. You'll be trusted and genuinely valued.

It's a highly visible, newly created position in a PE-backed business that operates across international markets, and they're entering an exciting new phase of growth where your new role will be a critical part of that journey.

Just as important for you as stretching your technical ability is joining a great culture with strong leaders. This business will deliver on that. People are trusted, given ownership and encouraged to develop beyond their role, all whilst working in a close-knit team.

In addition, you'll get 1-day WFH.

What You'll Do:

You'll be the technical accounting expert within the finance team, owning statutory reporting, tax and compliance across Australia and several international entities.

This is a role with genuine ownership and variety. Alongside managing the compliance calendar, you'll partner with external advisors, support strategic projects and play a key role in maintaining the financial integrity of the business.

Your responsibilities will include:

Preparing statutory financial statements and managing the year-end audit process.

Owning the tax and compliance calendar, including BAS, IAS, FBT, payroll tax and income tax obligations.

Managing international compliance across working with external advisors.

Overseeing corporate governance, statutory reporting and entity compliance.

Supporting tax planning, transfer pricing and technical accounting matters.

Contributing to group restructuring, governance improvements and future M&A activity.

Strengthening internal controls and identifying opportunities to improve finance processes.

Who You Are:

This role will suit either a confident first mover from Audit, Tax or Business Services, or a technically strong accountant already working in a commercial environment who's looking for broader ownership and exposure.

You'll be fully qualified (CA or CPA), enjoy technical accounting and take pride in getting the detail right. Interpreting legislation, understanding governance requirements and ensuring compliance comes naturally to you.

Just as importantly, you'll be an exceptional communicator. You'll work closely with senior leaders, external advisors and international stakeholders, so the ability to build relationships, explain technical matters clearly and influence others is every bit as important as your technical capability.

You'll also bring:

CA or CPA qualification.

A strong technical foundation in Audit, Tax, Business Services or Financial Accounting.

Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.

A proactive approach and the confidence to take ownership from day one.

Apply Today

Submit your CV directly via email to Stewart Selwood on [email protected] or by pressing the Apply button.

By clicking 'apply', you give your express consent that Robert Half may use your personal information to process your job application and to contact you from time to time for future employment opportunities. •
Your Opportunity

We've recruited a lot of Financial Controllers over the years, and the best ones usually have three things in common.

They're technically strong. They enjoy leading people. They never stop looking for ways to improve the finance function.

If that sounds like you, we'd encourage you to keep reading.

You'll join a PE-backed business that's entered an exciting new phase of growth following a major investment. The business is highly successful and growing, with big plans.

However, what stood out to us most about this role wasn't the title or the salary.

It's the CFO.

If you're ambitious, having a leader like this above you can make a huge difference to your career.

They're one of those finance leaders who genuinely enjoys developing people. Technically outstanding, commercially astute, razor sharp, and someone who wants their Financial Controller to challenge ideas, contribute to decisions and continue growing into a senior finance leader.

This isn't a role where you'll simply oversee month-end and keep the finance function moving.

You'll certainly own the technical side of finance such as financial reporting, consolidations, statutory compliance, audit, controls and governance, cash flow reporting, partner with tax advisors, but you'll also manage a team of four, partner with stakeholders across the business and become involved in acquisitions, financing activities, ERP implementation and continuous improvement projects.

You'll lead the day-to-day finance function, ensuring the quality, integrity and timeliness of financial reporting while developing a high-performing finance team.
In addition, you'll be working closely with the CFO to improve reporting, systems and finance processes as the business continues to grow.

Who You Are:

You will be an ambitious Financial Controller or experienced Finance Manager who's ready for broader leadership responsibility.

You'll almost certainly have built your career on a strong technical accounting foundation. Perhaps you started in Audit with a Big 4 or mid-tier firm before moving into industry, or you've developed that same technical capability through increasingly complex commercial finance roles.

Either way, you'll still enjoy understanding the detail and you'll be confident reviewing technical accounting matters, consolidations, statutory reporting and financial controls, while also recognising that today's Financial Controllers need to do far more than produce accurate numbers.

You'll know how to coach, develop and support your team while building strong relationships across the wider business. Your communication skills will be one of your greatest strengths, allowing you to influence stakeholders, challenge constructively and earn credibility at every level of the organisation.

CA or CPA qualification.

Strong technical accounting capability, including consolidations and statutory reporting.

Previous experience leading and developing finance teams.

A background in a growing SME or mid-market business.

Knowledge of retail, property, development is helpful but not a deal breaker

Outstanding communication and stakeholder management skills.

A genuine desire to continue learning and developing as a finance leader.

Interview Process:

First stage will be held in RH offices on Monday 10th August with final stage within 7 working days.

Apply Today

Submit your CV directly via email to Stewart Selwood on [email protected] or by pressing the Apply button.

By clicking 'apply', you give your express consent that Robert Half may use your personal information to process your job application and to contact you from time to time for future employment opportunities.
