Product Manager

Product Manager Job Description

Product managers oversee the development and launch of marketing and creative campaigns designed to promote new or improved products or product lines. They help shape a product’s “story,” which explains the product’s usefulness in meeting target customers’ specific needs and supporting their goals. Product managers need strong communication, collaboration and organizational skills, as their role requires them to work closely with the various teams — such as social media, public relations and sales — responsible for communicating to and engaging with target audiences. Most employers seek candidates with a proven track record of leading marketing and campaign initiatives, and some may prefer to hire product managers with knowledge of or experience in their company’s industry.

Typical product manager duties:

Researching and creating buyer personas (profiles of a product’s ideal customers) and crafting user stories detailing target customers’ needs and goalsDeveloping go-to-market strategies for new products or product linesEducating sales teams on a product’s value for customers and ensuring they’re equipped with marketing and creative content that helps communicate that value
