Media Buyer Job Description

Media buyers negotiate with media sales representatives to buy and place advertising on a variety of media channels, including print, broadcast and digital outlets. They identify media placements that enable a company or client to communicate its message to target audiences in the most effective and cost-efficient manner. This position requires strong analytical, critical thinking and negotiation skills; business acumen; and attention to detail. Employers seek candidates with media-buying or digital media experience. A bachelor’s degree in marketing or advertising is often required.

Typical media buyer duties:

Collaborating with accounting managers, media planners, and design and production personnel to plan and optimize media campaignsUsing market research information, like demographics and ratings, to select the best media mix and placements for an advertising campaignComparing and negotiating advertising rates and ensuring purchased advertising runs as specified
