Senior Data Engineer
<p>Our client based in Edmonton is seeking a hands-on Data Engineer for a 3-month contract to support a reporting modernization initiative. This role will focus on supporting complex reporting requirements across multiple programs and business units while developing a more scalable and centralized reporting environment.</p><p><br></p><p>The successful candidate will initially take ownership of existing monthly reporting processes, gain an understanding of the current reporting environment, and support knowledge transfer activities as needed. Once reporting has been stabilized, this individual will assess existing data sources, reporting workflows, databases, and system architecture to identify opportunities for consolidation, automation, and reporting improvements.</p><p><br></p><p>Working closely with leadership, this person will help establish a centralized reporting framework across multiple SQL-based systems, design and implement integrations between platforms, improve data accessibility and governance, and support the development of Power BI reporting solutions. </p><p><br></p><p><strong>Key Responsibilities</strong></p><ul><li>Take ownership of recurring operational and regulatory reporting requirements and ensure monthly deliverables are completed accurately and on time.</li><li>Review existing reporting processes, data sources, and workflows to identify opportunities for improvement.</li><li>Learn, support, and enhance existing Python-based reporting processes as required.</li><li>Map data across multiple systems and databases to support consolidation and reporting initiatives.</li><li>Design and implement a centralized reporting and data architecture.</li><li>Build and maintain integrations and APIs between business applications and reporting platforms.</li><li>Consolidate data from multiple SQL Server databases and develop scalable data models to support reporting and analytics.</li><li>Design, develop, and maintain Power BI dashboards and reporting solutions for business stakeholders.</li><li>Streamline and automate manual reporting processes to improve efficiency, consistency, and accuracy.</li><li>Partner with business leaders to gather requirements and translate business needs into practical reporting and data solutions.</li><li>Improve data quality, governance, accessibility, and reporting documentation.</li><li>Document data flows, reporting processes, and system architecture to support long-term sustainability.</li><li>Provide recommendations and a roadmap for future-state reporting, data management, and analytics capabilities.</li></ul>
<p><strong>Required Qualifications</strong></p><ul><li>5+ years of experience in Data Engineering, Business Intelligence, Database Development, or a related field.</li><li>Strong experience working with SQL Server and relational databases.</li><li>Experience designing and supporting data integrations, APIs, and data pipelines.</li><li>Hands-on experience with Power BI, including data modeling and dashboard development.</li><li>Experience consolidating data from multiple systems and sources.</li><li>Strong understanding of data architecture, reporting frameworks, and data management best practices.</li><li>Experience gathering requirements and working directly with business stakeholders.</li><li>Ability to analyze existing reporting environments and recommend scalable solutions.</li><li>Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.</li></ul>
