The Director ensures consistent brand voice, manages reputation, and advises senior leadership on communication best practices. This position demands exceptional strategic thinking, strong written and verbal communication skills, proven leadership in a fast-paced environment, and the ability to manage complex communication challenges. Typically, 10-15+ years of progressive experience in communications, public relations, or marketing, with at least 5 years in a leadership role, is required. A Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field is essential, with a Master's degree or relevant professional accreditation (e.g., APR) highly preferred. A deep understanding of Canadian media landscapes, cultural nuances, and public sentiment is paramount.

Typical communications director duties:

Develop and implement comprehensive communication strategies aligned with organizational goals.Oversee all internal communications (employee engagement, executive messaging).Manage external communications, including media relations and public relations.Develop and maintain consistent corporate messaging and brand voice.Advise senior leadership on communication strategies for key initiatives and crisis management.Lead and mentor a team of communications professionals.Manage digital communication channels (website, social media, email campaigns).Monitor media coverage, analyze public opinion, and assess communication effectiveness.Ensure all communications comply with Canadian regulations and ethical standards.
