Following its acquisition by a private equity firm, a highly profitable, formerly founder-led consultancy entered a formal expansion strategy across the Asia Pacific region. While the business had been commercially successful, it lacked the internal HR infrastructure required to scale effectively. There were no formal onboarding processes, no offboarding procedures, and no consistent HR policies to support the structural and cultural changes that lay ahead. To underpin the consultancy’s transformation and prepare the business for accelerated growth, the client needed a senior HR leader with a rare combination of strategic vision and hands-on execution capability. The brief required someone who had operated in a sophisticated, mature HR environment - with watertight policies and processes - yet who was not too far removed from the operational realities of scaling a fast-growing business. They needed a leader who could build the HR function from the ground up while contributing meaningfully at the executive table.

We began by engaging in confidential consultations with key business leaders to develop a position specification aligned with both the organisation’s current state and its long-term ambitions. Given the hands-on nature of the role and the cultural need for agility, we took a highly targeted approach to market mapping, intentionally avoiding candidates from large, bureaucratic environments and instead focusing on fast-growth, mid-sized organisations where leaders had built and scaled HR functions in dynamic settings. We facilitated a structured interview process that included two rounds with Robert Half and two stages with the client’s senior leadership team, allowing for robust evaluation of technical capability, leadership style, and cultural alignment. Within eight weeks, the successful candidate was appointed. We conducted comprehensive reference checks, including formal verifications, and managed the offer process end to end.
