A leader in the professional services industry, specialising in global design and consulting solutions, engaged our executive search firm to identify a new Chief Technology Officer (CTO). The appointment was highly confidential, as the incumbent CTO remained in position during the search.  The ideal candidate needed to demonstrate global leadership experience, the ability to lead complex digital transformation projects across six regions, and strong stakeholder management skills at C-suite level. The client also required guidance on competitive compensation structures and wanted the entire search process managed discreetly and efficiently.  As a key member of the senior leadership team, the role focused on driving efficiencies across the global IT infrastructure and supporting a significant international footprint.   Given the heavily matrixed structure, there were numerous senior stakeholder engagements that required a clear and decisive communication and working style. With extensive data sharing and common systems across the global office network, it was pivotal to identify a leader who could enable seamless operations while maintaining a secure and reliable technology infrastructure.

Executive profile mapping and market research Collaborated closely with the Global COO and Head of Technical Innovation to shape the ideal CTO profile, including leadership attributes, competency matrix, regional experience, and transformation capabilities.  Advised on appropriate executive compensation, including short- and long-term incentive plans aligned with the organisation’s growth goals.  Conducted a comprehensive global talent mapping exercise, targeting CTOs and senior technology leaders across adjacent industries and geographies.  2. Candidate evaluation and interview process Developed a shortlist of six high-calibre candidates, each assessed against pre-agreed leadership competencies and technical requirements.  Managed a three-stage global interview process:  Round 1: All six candidates interviewed by the Global COO in one intensive week.  Round 2: The top three advanced to interviews with the US Head of Technology as a peer evaluator.  Round 3: Final two candidates met with the CEO and Global COO for an in-depth discussion and cultural fit assessment over a working lunch.  3. Due diligence and offer facilitation All final-stage candidates underwent psychometric assessments and rigorous third-party reference checks, including:  Police clearances  Directorship and supervisory checks  Academic credential verification  We provided support throughout offer negotiation and acceptance, ensuring alignment on expectations, and a smooth transition.  4. Onboarding and closure  Our team facilitated a smooth and timely closure with all stakeholders, ensuring alignment on final offer terms and next steps.  We supported the development and execution of a tailored transition and onboarding plan to set the new CTO up for early success.  Finally, we conducted post-placement feedback sessions with both client and candidate to ensure satisfaction, reinforce long-term alignment, and capture insights for future searches.
