A long-established, family-owned business engaged our Executive Search practice to help appoint a General Manager who could lead the organisation through a period of transition. With the founding owners preparing for retirement, the business needed a trusted leader to take the reins without handing control over to private equity or an external acquirer. This role required a rare blend of commercial acumen, operational leadership, and emotional intelligence. The ideal candidate needed to demonstrate a proven track record in general management, alongside a deep understanding of robotic automation, manufacturing, or installation. Above all, cultural alignment and trust were paramount. The founders were understandably cautious about engaging a search firm but recognised the need for a structured and discreet approach to securing the right individual.

Our executive search solution

From the outset, we worked closely with the founders to understand the values, history, and future vision for the business. Our goal was twofold: to identify a candidate with the right technical and commercial skillset, and - equally importantly - someone who could earn the confidence and trust of the owners during this critical handover period. Using our proprietary research intelligence, we mapped a targeted list of candidates across adjacent sectors and competitor organisations, focusing on those with relevant domain knowledge and the leadership maturity to step into the role without disruption. Together with the client, we refined the candidate profile and ensured alignment at every stage. This process produced a shortlist of six candidates, each evaluated for their technical expertise, leadership capability, and cultural fit. All six progressed to first-round interviews with the founders. After thorough reference checks and financial due diligence, an offer was extended and accepted by a standout candidate, an executive who was already well-known to us through a prior client relationship.
