Analysts need strong analytical, problem-solving, and oral and written communication skills, as well as excellent judgment and self-motivation. Successful candidates stay up to date with government regulations and industry security trends and developments. Employers generally seek a bachelor’s degree in a computer-related field, along with at least three years of practical data security experience. A professional certification such as the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) designation is also a valuable asset.
